When did the Baptist Assembly start?
The first Baptist Assembly was held in 1813. It was set down in the Constitution of the Baptist Union of Great Britain (BUGB), which was formed at the same time (1812-1813)

The Baptist Assembly has been held every year since 1813 including during the first and second World Wars. From 1865 to 1914 there were two Assemblies each year: one in the spring and one in the autumn.

The Baptist Assembly has been held all over the UK. Many cities have hosted the Baptist Assembly - Birmingham, Blackpool, Bournemouth, Bradford, Bridlington, Brighton, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Derby, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Huddersfield, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Newport, Northampton, Norwich, Nottingham, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Reading, Sheffield, Southampton and Swansea.
How long has BMS World Mission been involved with the Baptist Assembly?
In 1940 the Assembly began to feature sessions about BMS World Mission, and since 1984 it has incorporated the annual general meetings of BMS and BUGB
Has the Assembly changed over the years?
The Assembly has developed over the years from being a business meeting and now includes a mixture of business, worship and teaching. It continues to innovate. In 2006 it introduced an interactive worship session called Prism, which continues to grow in popularity.
