Saturday Afternoon Main Seminar Programme - Part Two

Becoming a missional people – PRISM PART 2
It’s time to imagine a wholly new way of being church. From Girls’ Brigade to café church God is calling us to join him in his mission of making the world new. Come and explore what this means for your church and share your stories of how this is already happening in your neighbourhood.
Arranged by the PRISM team

The new atheism
In this seminar we will be examining the challenges presented to the gospel by the new atheism – philosophical, moral and historical. We will explore a Christian presentation of the gospel which engages these challenges and helps our friends encounter Christ.
Speaker: Amy Orr-Ewing
Arranged by BMS World Mission

Giving generously
Come and be inspired by stories of how your generous giving to the Home Mission Appeal is enabling the dreams of churches and initiatives from around the Baptist family to be turned into reality.
Hosted by: Amanda Allchorn, Head of Communications, BUGB; Rachel Tole, Grants Manager, BUGB and members of the Association Home Mission Network
Arranged by the Baptist Union of Great Britain

Encouraging young missionary disciples
Each week 18,000 children and young people are in Baptist churches and these same churches are in contact with over 125,000 children and teenagers. In this seminar we will examine how we can help children and young people to become disciples of Jesus, able to celebrate their faith in every way. Included will be the opportunity to hear about new resource material on children and communion produced by the Faith and Unity Department.
Jointly hosted by Ian Bunce, Head of Mission Baptist Union; Ruth Gilson, National Director Girls’ Brigade and Ed Jones, Director Arise Ministries
Arranged by the Baptist Union of Great Britain

Money advice
The recession is still causing rising unemployment and levels of debt affecting people both in and beyond our churches. Jesus frequently spoke about money and debt and this seminar will help you open up the issue in your church. Information will be given on how people in churches can help those facing debt problems at different levels, from being a well-informed friend to budget coaching and running a registered debt advice centre.
Speaker: from the organisation Stewardship
Arranged by the Baptist Union of Great Britain

Missional football
This year sees two World Cups in South Africa. One is the FIFA World Cup. The other is the Street Child World Cup, with boys and girls from across the world competing.  BMS is launching a resource to make the FIFA World Cup an evangelistic opportunity. It will be introduced by John Motson and, as well as featuring street children, will include contributions from Christian footballers, Kaká (Brazil), Marcos Senna (Spain) and Cyrille Domoraud (Cote d’Ivoire).
Speaker: Chris Rose, Director, Street Child World Cup
Arranged by BMS World Mission

Through different eyes: Reading the Bible in a global community
More and more Christians based in the UK are finding their experience of the Bible wonderfully enriched, as the eyes of readers around the world unlock fresh perspectives. Richard Kidd, Joe Kapolyo and Kumar Rajagopalan will tackle some familiar texts – expecting you never to hear them the same way again!
Arranged by the Baptist Union of Great Britain and Baptist Colleges

One God, one Bible, one mission: Reading scripture as the story of a missionary movement
What is the biblical basis for understanding the one mission to which we are called? Glen Marshall and Roger Standing will help open our eyes and hearts to God’s big story and encourage us to discover the ways in which we are being invited to take part.
Arranged by the Baptist Union of Great Britain and Baptist Colleges

Love the world (or not)
Post Copenhagen, scientists still claim the climate is changing, and governments still seem unable to stop it. Some say the church should take a lead. But is caring for creation really part of our ‘one mission’ or a worldly distraction from evangelism? Part seminar, part arm-wrestling, ably assisted by two people with specialist environmental and theological expertise.
Speakers: John Weaver, Principal, South Wales Baptist College and chair of the John Ray initiative, and Brendan Bowles, Director, Climate Stewards
Arranged by BMS World Mission
